How to watch Wimbledon 2021 in the UK and US
This year's Wimbledon tennis tournament started on Monday 28 June, and you can watch much of it in 4K Ultra HD. In fact, many of the matches will be available with the stunning HDR contrast and colour tech too.
The BBC is showing all matches from Centre Court at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in 4K HDR (using the HLG standard) on BBC iPlayer, like it did in 2019.
Here is how to watch the action from The Championships in the best formats possible, as well as how to watch Wimbledon in a standard format if don't have the equipment needed for 4K HDR, or you aren't too bothered about seeing Djokovic in Ultra High Definition.
How to watch Wimbledon 2021 in the UK
The BBC has the rights to Wimbledon 2021 in the UK, so you can watch all the action unfold on BBC One, BBC Two, BBC Red Button and online through BBC iPlayer between 28 June and 11 July.
There is live coverage of Wimbledon every day from 11AM, while BBC Two is showing the Today at Wimbledon highlights at either 8PM or 8:30PM each night, depending on the day. Of course, you can catch up with all the coverage on the BBC iPlayer app or online if you missed it live.
You can also visit the BBC Sport Tennis website, where there is plenty to watch, such as Wimbledon Trending.
How to watch Wimbledon 2021 in the US
Wimbledon is available to watch in the US through ESPN+, as well as Tennis Channel Plus.
You can also use a VPN to watch BBC iPlayer if you are outside of the UK, whether in the US or somewhere else. This will enable you to get in on all the action as if you were in the UK, but you will need a valid TV licence, as well as a BBC account with a UK postcode so it's not quite as simple as it first seems.
How to watch Wimbledon in 4K HDR
The BBC is offering Ultra HD coverage of Wimbledon in 4K HDR as part of its UHD trial, using the HLG (Hybrid Log Gamma) standard. Every match played on the Centre Court will be available to view in the format through BBC iPlayer.
You can get it if your TV is compatible with HLG tech (see the list of supported TVs here) and have a broadband speed fast enough. The BBC suggests you will need a speed around 24Mbps or above to get full 4K (3840 x 2160). However, you can still get an excellent, higher-than-Full HD image if your internet speed is 12Mbps or above.
All you need to do is open BBC iPlayer and when there is a match available to view, the UHD stream is available and your device is supported, you will see the UHD icon. When you select to view, you will be given the choice of UHD, HD or SD (standard definition). Choose to watch in UHD and enjoy. You'll find the live UHD Wimbledon action either on the BBC iPlayer homepage, or in the Sport Category.
Access to the iPlayer Wimbledon 4K streams will be on a first-come, first-served basis (pun not intended). The BBC says to book your place early and if you miss out, try again later in the match as some spaces may free up.
The feed is available through the iPlayer app on multiple streaming devices, including Amazon Fire TV Cube (2nd Gen), Fire TV Stick 4K, the Roku Streaming Stick+ and Virgin TV V6 box. You can see a full list here. Unfortunately, Sky Q is not compatible and it's not possible to watch the 4K stream using your phone, tablet or laptop.
