Taking shots of tequila just got a whole lot tastier
While searching for some yummy (and boozy) items for my housewarming party this weekend, I stumbled upon what I could only describe as drunken treasure. May I introduce you to your new best friend, deep-fried tequila shots. Made with angel food cake, fried in vegetable oil until golden brown, and topped with a dusting of powdered sugar, these fried tequila shots will have you dancing on the table before you know it.

Yes, you can deep fry just about anything. Whether it's Oreos, pickles, butter, or in this cake, sponge cake drenched in tequila, anything can be added to deep-frying oil. If you can fry it, it's probably at a State Fair somewhere in America.

To begin, make or purchase an angel food cake and cut the cake into small squares. Meanwhile, heat 2-3 inches of vegetable oil or canola oil in a large pot and heat to 350 degrees. Add your tequila and lime juice to a small bowl and using a fork, dip the piece of cake into the tequila mixture and then drop the sponge cake into the oil and fry until golden brown. Remove the cake to a paper towel-lined plate and let cool before dusting with powdered sugar and lime zest.
Pop a cake cube in your mouth and you'll be pleasantly surprised how good this fried food tastes! Some compare it to a mix between a margarita and a funnel cake.
But don't stop there. Deep frying tequila is just the beginning! Tupelo Honey, a Southern food-based chain, shares that making fried booze can be an art. Their website includes recipes for Deep-fried Ramos Gin Fizz Bites and Deep-fried Jalapeno & Poblano-Moonshine Bites. Now that sounds like a party.
